Why Do we give flowers on Mother’s Day?
Flowers have been associated with femininity for millennia, due to their beauty.
Giving flowers on Mother’s Day has been a tradition that has gone on for well over 400 years — since the 16th century. Originally called “Mothering Sunday”, this tradition that started in the U.K. to celebrate mothers on the fourth Sunday of Lent. This was also because it falls on May 25th — which is 9 months before Christmas.
However, it wasn’t until the early 20th century that “Mother’s Day” in the U.S. was adopted as a holiday. In the United States, it falls on the second Sunday of May and is less affiliated with its original Christian origin.
